Mrs. Carrie M. Baker
August 21, 1938 - April 11, 2022
Carrie Mae Baker (nee Simpson) of Baltimore, and formerly of Hedgesville, WV, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at Gilchrist Towson. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Baker, Sr. (Bob). Born in Baltimore on August 21, 1938, she was the ninth of ten children born to Viola and Chester Simpson. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1956, was married to Bob in 1963, and together they had 3 children. They owned and operated Design Lite, Inc. in Baltimore and Washington, DC for 27 years. When her children were in school, Carrie returned to get a degree from Goucher College. After retiring from the lighting business, she worked as the bookkeeper for Tersiguel’s in Ellicott City, and later for the Church of the Resurrection in Burtonsville. Carrie was a deeply faithful person, and she enjoyed supporting many causes that were dear to her heart. Later in life, the most notable among them was the Hedgesville Public Library. She also loved gardening, cooking, and baking cookies for her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Baker, Jr.; two daughters, Kirsten Lockyer and husband, Charles, and Leslie Baker and husband, Kenneth Sprenke; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Simpson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 130 W. Seminary Ave., Lutherville, MD 21093. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gilchrist, 11311 McCormick Rd., Ste. 350, Hunt Valley, MD 21031 or at gilchristcares.org/donation.
