Mrs. Clara Mae Lyon Riggle

Clara Mae Lyon Riggle, the loving Mother of Mary Claire Ingalls, Anne Riggle, Maureen Wakefield, Jon Riggle and the late Paul Riggle, died on March 17, 2021, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Clara was 92 years old. Clara was born and raised in Baltimore City and graduated from St. Anne’s grammar school. In 1946, she graduated from Eastern High School. She attended Notre Dame University of Maryland. She excelled academically and loved the sciences. She worked as the comptroller for her family business, John H. Lyon Contractors, for 67 years. She also worked as a bookkeeper for more than ten years at St. Michael’s Church in Overlea with Monseigneur Tewes. She was very proud when Monseigneur Tewes would mention that she helped save the church. She volunteered to help the School Sisters of Notre Dame purchase material for their habits and provided transportation for the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was a devote Catholic and regular parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Govans. She enjoyed cooking and made meals for a least nine (9) people every evening up until her old age. She was the family Caregiver, devoting her time to taking care of five children and nursing her family members through serious illnesses. She is the Grandmother of Christina Bond, Rebecca Wakefield, Kylie Lobell, Susanna Ingalls Qazi, and Jared Raitzyk. She is the Great Grandmother of Henry and Adeline Bond and Sophia Lobell. Service will be held at St. Mary’s Govans, located at 5502 York Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21212 on April 24, 2021 at 12:00pm.
