Mr. Donald Ray Shaneor
February 8, 1947 - January 19, 2022
On Wednesday January 19, 2022, Donald Ray Shaneor died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and coach. He lit up a room with his smile and put people at ease with his kind nature and sense of humor. Don was born on February 8, 1947, in Middletown, PA. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended Middletown High School where he played basketball. He went on to earn a B.S. in Education from Elizabethtown College where he met Linda Tripple. They married in 1969 soon after Don’s graduation. He had an elementary teacher, Donna Thompson, who made such an impact on him that he wanted to do the same for young people. Don and Linda relocated to Baltimore, MD when Don began is career in education at Woodlawn High School. A few years later he helped open brand new Loch Raven Senior High School where he remained for the duration of his career. During those years he earned a Master’s in Education from Towson University. He coached both Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys Basketball. After many seasons, he went on to fill other roles in Girls Softball and Soccer. The family spent summers in Ocean City, New Jersey creating many memories and traditions that have endured. An avid sports fan, he enthusiastically supported Maryland basketball, Ravens football, Orioles baseball, and the PGA tour. Above all he loved the New York Yankees and revered sports history. Don was a member of the Country Club of Maryland where in retirement he took full advantage of his love of golf and great friends. He and Linda enjoyed travel and time with their children and grandchildren. He also loved many family dogs which brought him great joy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Tripple Shaneor, daughters Barbie S. Maniscalco (Andrew) and Christy S. Ferrens (Jim): grandchildren Jack E. Maniscalco, Anna W. and Will J. Ferrens. Service and Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name may be made to Gilchrist Hospice 11311 McCormick Road #350 Hunt Valley, MD 21031.
