Mrs. Ann Elaine McKim

Ann McKim of Towson Maryland was the much beloved wife of Wayne McKim and mother of Bruce, Andrew, and Ross McKim. Ann's passing on June 19, 2024 was marked with heartfelt grief by her family and friends. Ann enjoyed growing up in Ohio and Michigan with her parents, Hugh and Ada May Stelson, her two brothers, and three sisters. Ann married Wayne McKim in 1965, and they shared 58 years together, a life filled with love, adventure, and a deep sense of family. Ann McKim earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and worked as a clinical psychologist for several years. She was a professor at Goucher College from 1995-2015. She also taught at the University of Botswana for three years. Ann absolutely loved teaching psychology and conducting research. She established a Positive Psychology research laboratory at Goucher and conducted several scientific studies on how to live happier and more fulfilled lives. She presented innovative research with her students at over ten American Psychological Association conferences. Ann's energy and passion for psychology inspired and positively impacted thousands of students over 20 years. Students described her as an "amazing professor," "full of life," "an excellent mentor," and "an influential role model." Ann was passionate about travel and maintained a sense of adventure throughout her life. At age 23, she travelled on a month-long freighter trip to Eastern Africa. She was always planning new trips and over her life she and Wayne travelled to over 70 countries. One of her favorite destinations was the United Kingdom which she visited more than 50 times. There, she engaged in well dressing community events, attended the opening of the Sigmund Freud Museum, and met the duchess of the castle where Downton Abbey was filmed. She also had a special love for Africa and her family lived for a total of six years in Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana. Ann went on safaris to more than 25 national parks in eastern and southern Africa. Ann had a lifelong passion for learning and reading, especially Jane Austin and Agatha Christie. Her happiest memories were with her family, especially celebrating Christmas and birthdays. A favorite tradition that Ann initiated was a biblical meal on Christmas Eve. This wonderful and meaningful celebration of Christmas brought together the entire family to share food from the time of Jesus and read Biblical passages. Ann's passing is deeply mourned by her family- her husband Wayne, two sons Andrew and Ross, her daughter-in-law, Mariella, and five grandchildren Brandon, Ryan (and his wife Natalia), Kyle, Alana, and Andrea. Ann was a light to her family and will be remembered lovingly. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that gifts in memory of Ann be made to Goucher College.
