Gwendolyn "Gengy" Delia Egan

Gwendolyn Delia Egan nee German (Gengy), passed away peacefully at Sinai Hospital on Saturday, October 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 25, 1936 to parents, Frederick and Gwendolyn German and welcomed her baby brother, Fred, four years later. Gengy was a devoted sister to her brother, Cricket, and they faithfully honored their parents’ gravesite with decorations every year. She was raised in her beloved neighborhood, Saint John's Tenth Ward, attended local schools and was a graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School, Class of 1953. Gengy married William Egan in January, 1959 and they briefly resided in Oklahoma. Gengy spent many years in the Leith Walk neighborhood raising her children in a home filled with festive activity. She enjoyed many jobs, none more important than carpool with the cousins, and she eventually retired from the Housing Authority of Baltimore City in 2013 after 32 years. In her spare time, Gengy enjoyed family trips to Ocean City and Connecticut, card games, happy hour, Baltimore sports, bus trips, dessert, birthday gifting, travel, television, crabs and anything Irish. She is proudly survived by her four loving children, Genie Williams, Weegee Egan, Carrie Gallo and Gengy Lynn Vaikness and adored by her attentive sons in-laws, Michael Williams, David Gallo and Steve Vaikness. She embraced being Granny and cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren at recitals and on the sidelines. She will be forever loved and remembered as Grandmom and G$ by her eight grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Rivlin, Ryan (Becca) Williams, Sydney, Kylie and Bailey Gallo, Timothy, Anna and Brigid Vaikness. She was blessed with two great grandchildren, Ramona Rivlin and Wyatt Williams and two grand dogs, Juno and Ruby. Her greatest joy and pleasure in life was spending time with her family and her friends who became family. She enjoyed special bonds with her many nieces, beloved nephew and treasured the Good Time Girls. Her penchant for holiday shopping will be missed by all lucky enough to celebrate with her. A visitation will be held at Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 4 to 7 pm. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 9 am at Saints Philip & James Catholic Church where Gengy received the Holy Sacraments as a child and an adult. The Church is located at 2801 North Charles Street, Baltimore. Burial will be private.
