Sallilynch C. Smith

Sallilynch Currin Smith loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away surrounded by family on April 29, 2026 in Towson, Maryland. She was born on April 18th, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland, the beloved daughter of Joseph Lynch Currin and Katherine Woodrow Currin. Sallilynch attended and graduated from the Bryn Mawr School in 1958 in Baltimore, Maryland and Hollins College in 1962 in Roanoke, Virginia. While in college, she met the love of her life, C. Truitt Smith, who swept her off her feet, marrying her after she graduated from college. They were married 42 adventurous years until his passing in 2005. They shared two wonderful daughters together, Suzanne and Kathilynch. Sallilynch devoted over 30 years to teaching and educating young girls at the Bryn Mawr Lower School. When she wasn’t in the classroom, she could be found in her garden creating an artist palette oasis of colors, and later became a member of the Hardy Garden Club. She was an avid cook and would whip up a 5 course meal from scratch in the kitchen, showcasing her culinary talents not just at family dinners but also at numerous dinner parties. She hosted and was known for her infamous Christmas Eve parties with a plethora of delicious dishes made from scratch. Travel was a big part of Sallilynch and Truitt’s lives, spending summers in Florida, and traveling abroad to immerse themselves in historical cultures. Sallilynch truly only sat down, when she was spending time with her family, reading a book, needlepointing, knitting, or enjoying a scotch by the fire. Sallilynch’s truest passion was her love for her family. Her husband Truitt, her daughters Suzanne and Kathilynch, were her world. As her family grew, her heart welcomed 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She believed you should be surrounded by the ones you love. This was the true meaning of life. In addition to her family, she was known to meet and make long lasting friendships. These friendships were neighbors, classmates, colleagues from teaching, and people she met abroad when traveling. She always treasured her friendships, especially those spanding over 80 years. Sallilynch is survived by her daughters Suzanne (Greg) Pugh, Kathilynch (Brian) Martin, 5 Grandchildren, William (Katherine) Pugh, Lisa Pugh, Kailee (Patrick) Hefner, Emily Martin, Todd Martin, and great-grandson Truitt Hefner. She is preceded in death by her husband. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 12th at 10:00 am At Mitchell-Weidelfeld Funeral Home 6500 York Road Baltimore, MD 21212 Interment will be celebrated privately by the family.
