Mrs. Dorothy L. Hutchins

Dorothy Lee Hutchins (nee Boyd) ,89, passed away on December 24, 2018 at Stella Maris Hospice surrounded by her children. Dorothy (Dottie) was born in Baltimore on September 21, 1929 to the late William Lee and Dorothy Elizabeth Boyd (nee Arnold). She had one loving sis-ter, the late Rosalind B. Jones. Dottie went to Forest Park High School in Baltimore. She became interested in baton twirling and marching bands as a teenager. She was one of the original Baltimore Colts Marching Band majorettes. Mainly self taught, she became a nationally renowned marching band director, ba-ton twirling teacher, coach, and judge. She has friends from the twirling community across the nation. Her name and achievements have been entered into the National Baton Twirling Asso-ciation’s Hall of Fame. In 1995, she moved to Largo, Florida where she enjoyed 20 years of sun, sand, and meeting with friends at a local restaurant. She was an avid user of Facebook which helped keep her connected to her family and numerous friends across the country. She loved sports and based her daily activities on the game schedules. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a special love for children. She was married to the late William (Bill) F. Hutchins for 45 years. Together they had eight children Jim (Mary-Margaret), Lee, Joe, Wendy, the late Dennis Hutchins, Terri Archibald, Ann Hess (Don) and Allison Rice; eight grandchildren Matthew (Lolitta) & Justin (DeLayne) Tracy, Christopher & Andrew (Jess) Archibald, Angela (Jamie) Siebold, Brandon Zeigler, Ray Rice, the late Daniel Hutchins; and three great grandchildren Dominic, Cecilia, and Reagan. She also en-joyed a special closeness with her nephew and nieces Bob (Vicky), Susan, and Nancy Jones, and Kathi (David) Kovel. Interment will be private. The family wishes to thank all of her friends and especially the twirling community for the love and support given her.
