Lt. Col. Warren Edmond Walter

Lt. Col. Warren Edmond Walter, born July 19, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022, in Charlottesville, VA at the age of 80. A graduate of Baltimore Polytechnical Institute, earning a degree from the University of Maryland in Aeronautical Engineering and a master’s degree in Mathematics, Warren dedicated his life to serving our country. He joined the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam as a Jolly Green pilot and became a decorated combat veteran, earning a purple heart, a distinguished flying cross, a meritorious service medal, and the air medal with silver oakleaf clusters, and later became a B52 pilot before entering into intelligence work with the Foreign Technology Division. Warren had a passion for soccer, he coached his 3 children and was responsible for developing the American soccer programs in Europe. Following a distinguished military career, Warren went to work for the Defense Intelligence Agency, serving our country for an additional 15 years. Upon his retirement he settled in Hertford, NC where he pursued his love of boating holding several board positions within the Albemarle Plantation marina and volunteering at local elementary schools. Warren was preceded in death by his father, Warren Howard Walter and mother, Gloria Brock Walter. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice Todd Walter, and children Jennifer Mae (Paul), Warren Todd (Lisa) and Jonathan Howard (Tracy) and five grandchildren Warren Tyler, Brandon Michael, Caitlin Prescott, Evan George, and Tate Jonathan. Friends may call at the MITCHELL-WIEDEFELD FUNERAL HOME INC. 6500 York Rd Baltimore MD 21212 on Thursday, January 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 28th at 10AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org), Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org) or Disabled American Veterans (dav.org).
