Charlotte A.B. Floyd

Charlotte A. B. Floyd, 85, of Towson, MD passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026. Born May 21, 1941 in Chicago, IL, she was the eldest daughter of Howard and Phyllis Bunting. After eight years in Illinois, Charlotte moved to New Jersey and graduated from Haddon Heights High School in 1959. She was a member of the National Honor Society and often played the female lead in school plays. Charlotte studied art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. While there, she was a member of the Pratt College Bowl team, which competed on the associated GE television show. Charlotte graduated in 1963 with a degree in Art Education, and continued to live in New York. Charlotte attended the legendary Woodstock Music Festival in 1969; the same year, she was one of the founding members of the Bowery Gallery in New York City. In the early 1970s, Charlotte married and moved to Baltimore’s Bolton Hill neighborhood, which she made her home for more than fifty years. Charlotte had a lifelong love of art, especially figure drawing and watercolor painting. For many years, she attended figure drawing classes at the Maryland Institute College of Art and Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. She was a lover of classical music and supported the Maryland Opera and the Baltimore Symphony, and was a member of the Bolton Hill Garden Club. Charlotte had a deep and profound fondness for cats, flowers, travel, and Baltimore’s vibrant and diverse art community. She was often found sketching friends and family, pets and zoo animals, players at sporting events, and even at church while the minister was preaching. She will be remembered for her wit, her way with words, her chuckling laugh, and the sparkle in her eye that told you in no uncertain terms whether you were in her joyful heart, or you’d been warned. She had a special love for the Adirondack Mountains in New York State where the family vacationed when she was young. Her travels took her to England, France, Germany, Denmark, Greece, and Japan, creating and collecting art along the way. Both individually and as a Trustee for the Kenneth S. Battye Charitable Trust, Charlotte generously and enthusiastically supported causes in Baltimore, in Maryland State, and worldwide, focusing on human rights, diversity, animals, art and museums, and music. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Phyllis Bunting; her brother-in-law Robert Wood, and her nephew, James Wood. She is survived by her brother James Bunting (Judi) of Nashua, NH, her sister Constance Wood of Bernardsville, NJ, her nieces Kate Bunting of Cromwell, CT and Mary Saad (Jason) of Lincroft, NJ, her nephew Michael Bunting (Lianne) of Billerica, MA, several grand-nephews, her godsons, far-flung dear friends and chosen family, and her beloved ginger cat, Kat-Dinsky. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1900 St. Paul St., Baltimore, MD 21218. A reception will follow the service. The interment will be private.
