Mr. David Wayde Chrismer

On June 8, 2025, David Wayde Chrismer, beloved husband of Margaret Chrismer (nee Wright), devoted father of Paul Francis Chrismer and his wife Marilyn and Nancy Chrismer Duke, dear brother of James E. Chrismer, Stephen P. Chrismer, John Brady Chrismer, Anna Chrismer Housman and the late Michael P. Chrismer, loving grandfather of Andrew C. Duke and Meredith M. Duke. David was born on September 22, 1945, the third child of Wayde and Katie Chrismer. He had an incredibly happy childhood living in Bel Air. In grade school he attended St. Margaret parochial school and was a member of the St. Margaret parish. As one of six kids in the family, he quickly learned to get along with people. After graduating from Calvert Hall College H.S. and Loyola College, David settled in Baltimore, and began a 43-year career in teaching. His first and last years in teaching were in Baltimore County public schools, sandwiched between 41 years in the Baltimore City public schools. Over the years, the subjects he taught included Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra II and Geometry. He taught at Rock Glen Jr. High for five years, before beginning a nearly two decade tenure at Fallstaff Middle School. For nearly a decade, he taught underclass courses at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. The love of his life was his wife Maggie, a feisty, funny and witty redheaded nurse. He proposed to Margaret Wright after Midnight Mass on Christmas 1969 and they were wed on August 22, 1970 at Maggie’s home parish, St. Anthony in Gardenville. David and Maggie had two children, Paul Francis (born 1975) and Nancy Elizabeth (born 1977). The Chrismer’s lived in Rodgers Forge and favorite family memories included holiday gatherings, summer vacations including a week in Ocean City each July, educational day trips, many summer days spent at local community pools, Orioles games and hundreds of school and church events over the many years. Beyond the love of family and friends, other loves and passions included Irish culture, aviation, World War II, Baltimore history and culture, traveling (most notably three trips to Ireland and a dozen cruises), rooting for the hometown professional teams (Orioles and Ravens), Notre Dame football, Mount St. Mary’s basketball, Calvert Hall athletics, and following the sport of lacrosse. David was first diagnosed with a rare head and neck cancer in 2007 and had three separate cancer occurrences over 15 years. Each time facing cancer, he bravely fought through his illnesses and the side effects of treatment. And he enthusiastically rang the bell following his cancer treatments three times. Over these years, David was blessed to receive the care of smart, talented and compassionate doctors, nurses and medical professionals at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In the years following his first diagnosis, David experienced many wonderful moments. In 2013, his son Paul married Marilyn Camacho, a beautiful Cuban girl from New York. He also saw the births of his grandson Andy and his granddaughter Meredith, and seeing them grow up to become smart, talented and lovely young adults gave him an immense amount of joy. David’s perspective in life was enhanced by his incredible faith. David was a practicing Roman Catholic his entire life. From years as an alter server at St. Margaret’s, 18 years of Catholic education, marrying in the Church and raising two children in the Catholic faith, visiting almost every church in the Baltimore archdiocese, attending services at the National Basilica at Catholic University and the Sacred Heart Basilica at Notre Dame, visiting St. Patrick’s cathedral in Manhattan, dozens of visits to the Seton Shrine and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, and even a pilgrimage to the Vatican, his faith in Jesus and connection to the Catholic church sustained him in even the worst days. Our family would like to thank Fr. Sam Young for visiting him in hospice and extending an Anointing of the Sick blessing the day before he passed away.
