Mrs. Jean Sause Heemann

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Sause Heemann, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, friend and inspirer to many. Jean passed away peacefully around 7am on March 21, 2025, in the presence of loving family. Jean lived a life defined by love, kindness and generosity, all with an unwavering and joyful spirit led by the Lord. Jean was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, dating to her baptism in 1928. Jean was born on July 27, 1928 in Baltimore to David and Marie Sause (SOW-see). After her graduation from Eastern High School in 1945, she went on to attend Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1949. On June 18, 1949, she married Ronald Heemann, lovingly sharing over 52 years of life in marriage until Ronald’s passing in October 2001. After graduating college and marrying, Jean taught 1st grade for several years at Gardenville Elementary in the Hamilton area of Baltimore, then going on to raise her two sons, Stephen and Kerry on nearby Gleneagle Road. In 1962, Jean and Ron purchased a brand new home on Breezewick Circle in Towson, where Jean lived for 60 years. Jean, Ron, and family spent many summers at their oceanfront home on 43rd Street in Ocean City, MD, before the home was blown away in a Nor ‘easter on Ash Wednesday in 1962. Jean spent much of her life as a loving inspiration and mentor, to her loving family and a thoughtful teacher, working as substitute teacher for Immanuel Lutheran School & Baltimore County Public Schools until the 1980s, as well as a Sunday school teacher at Immanuel. She, along with Ron, also shared a passion for travel, visiting over 70 countries across six continents, first aligned with Ron’s business travel and then continuing leisurely following Ron’s retirement. In her late years, Jean devoted time to volunteering and giving back to her community, at Immanuel (Easter & Christmas candy making), as well as at Augsburg Lutheran Home and at GBMC’s “Nearly New” sale. Her devotion and commitment to family was a constant, ranging from annual summary vacations at Bethany Beach, DE to hosting extended family Sunday dinners for more than 35 years. In her leisure time, she was an avid golfer and member of the Country Club of Maryland; an excellent bridge (card) player; and a phenomenal hostess for countless 4th of July, Labor Day and Halloween parties, and for epic New Years’ Event parties held annually for nearly 50 years. Jean will be deeply missed by her entire family, friends, community and so many who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home (6500 York Road, Baltimore, MD 21212). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 10:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church (5701 Loch Raven Blvd., Baltimore MD 21239). In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
