Margaret Donahue Flanigan

Margaret (Peggy) Donahue Flanigan, 97 passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Edenwald Senior Living Retirement Community. Born on April 14, 1928 in Baltimore, Peggy was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Ryan) Donahue. She is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Richard J. (Dick) Flanigan; brother, Rev. John Donahue, SJ; sister Rose Marie DeBoy, and son-in-law, Randy E. Rager. Peggy is survived by her four children, J. Michael Flanigan and wife Gregory Weidman; Margaret F. (Peggy) Rager, Richard J. (Dick) Flanigan Jr. and wife Laura Flanigan; and Maureen D. Flanigan and husband Reggie Borish. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Ryan Flanigan, Gregory Flanigan, Maggie Wilkinson, Sam Rager, Ally Parker, Mary Katherine Flanigan, Bridget Flanigan, Wil Flanigan, Joe Flanigan, Jessica Flanigan, Sarah Borish, sixteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Peggy was a homemaker and worked in local boutiques, but anyone who knew Peggy knew that her family was her greatest joy. Nothing made her happier than gathering with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She hosted many family celebrations; her oyster dressing and Christmas sugar cookies were family favorites. Peggy loved gardening and flower arranging; there was always a homemade wreath on the front door at Christmas. She was an active member of her community, especially the Heatherfield Garden Club and Association, holding many leadership roles over her 50 years in that neighborhood. Peggy loved words and could be seen on many a night working on a crossword puzzle or playing “Words with Friends”. Poetry was her passion. Whether it was writing a special poem for a wedding, baby shower, milestone birthday or scavenger hunt, she was up for the challenge. She was an occasional seamstress, making Barbie doll clothes or a Christening gown (made from her wedding dress) for her grandchildren and future great-grandchildren. She was also very artistic, drawing caricatures of friends and family or designing paper dolls. Being handy was her superpower; she could fix anything with a rubber band, screw driver and a Bobby pin. Peggy loved people and was a dear friend to many. She and her friends would gather at the Peppermill restaurant or play a couple hands of Bridge. Peggy was always the life of the party and loved to dance. At Edenwald, she was known for her signature shoulder roll; nothing could keep her down. She made friends easily and stayed in touch with childhood friends. She was the consummate storyteller; if you were with Peggy, you were usually laughing and left happier than when you arrived. She was always the funniest person in the room. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, February 27th at Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home at 6500 York Rd., Baltimore, MD. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Towson, MD. Internment will be held at a later date.
