Mrs Mary Janet Penkilo

Mary Janet Penkilo (nee Winterling), age 86, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday November 19, 2024. Janet was born on July 27, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Marie and Albert Winterling. Janet graduated from The Catholic High School of Baltimore Maryland in 1956. She was active in the drama and glee club at her school. With the voice of an angel, she performed as a soloist on her high school stage. During school, she worked at a dress shop so she could buy beautiful dresses for her formal events. In 1959, Janet was crowned queen of The March of Champions. She also held the title of Miss Fire Prevention-she met Dan at the parade while riding in his convertible. Dan and Janet married in 1963. Janet enjoyed her family and friends, having many neighborhood parties and family gatherings. Janet worked for a pediatrician taking care of his office till their daughter, Jeannine came along. Being a stay-at-home mom became her new job, and she really enjoyed taking her children to sporting and school events. In 1978, Dan’s job took them to Kerrville, Texas. Moving to a small town in Texas was a big change. Going to San Antonio for fun on the Riverwalk and mass at the missions were her joys. In 1988, Tyler Texas became their home. Building a new house where her mom and dad could live with them tells you the person she was. Janet was always thinking of others, taking care of family was a top priority for her. In her later years, being a grandmother brought her happiness along with her continual love for music and church. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tyler. Janet Penkilo was preceded in death by her husband Daniel F. Penkilo, her parents, Marie and Albert C. Winterling, and her brother Charles M. Winterling. She is survived by her brother Albert and his wife Marlene Winterling, daughter, Jeannine Luenser of Denton, TX and her children Kenneth, Steven and Matthew and her son Gary and his wife Monica Penkilo of Tyler, TX and their children Ava and Anna. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home at 6500 York Road (at Overbrook) Baltimore, Maryland 21212 on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, from 10-11:30 am. A 11:30 am prayer service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Janet will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery 7401 German Hill Rd Dundalk, MD 21222. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Janet’s name to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation 4111 University Blvd Tyler, TX 75701 or American Diabetes Association at PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
